Amazing Blog Friday: Mia & Mika

Meet the owner of Mia & Mika, Yasmin Emilia a 28-year-old who is based in Dublin, Ireland. Mia & Mika is an online shop aimed at "bring(ing) you high street brands at affordable prices so you will never have to pay retail ever again". Sound enticing? Well since the owner of this shop is based in Dublin so brace yourself for loads and loads of brand names, some established in Malaysia and some that you have not heard of. From handbags, to kids and women apparels you people are certainly spoilt for choice!

Let's get close and personal with this week's Amazing Blog Friday entry.

1. So who is the owner of Mia & Mika actually?
The owner is Yasmin Emilia, 28 years old, currently located at Dublin, Ireland. Since I am abroad, my sister, Sara Lydia, is handling the business from KL. All items that are posted on Mia & Mika are all readily available in KL therefore buyer do not have to bear any international shipping costs!
Mika oh so darn cute!

2. When did you start your online shop
The website was given birth in the middle of August, just within weeks before I officially turned 28! :) So we are still relatively new in the whole online business thingy.By the way, my online store is named after my first son - Mika. And in the future if I were to have a daughter, I would love to name her Mia :) Hence, Mia & Mika!

3. What actually inspire you to start your business?
The idea sort of came up to me during my 6.5 months (paid too!) long and blissful maternity leave. I was certain that I will be having trouble getting into the routine of going back to work after such a long time off. So i started toying around with the idea (since I love to shop anyway!) and did some research through internet and the rest is history!

4. Is Mia & Mika a full time commitment or are you only doing this part time?
At the moment, I am still maintaining my 9-5 job therefore Mia & Mika only serves as a side income for me. There might be a possibility of me concentrating solely on my online business in few years time but that is highly dependable on many other factors.

5. Which one do you think is your best product?
Well.. I would love to say ALL!! :) The clothes, handbags and scarves are all gorgeous! But if I were to based on sales/demand, handbags seems to be the most popular ones. They go off rather quickly!
This bag is an example of bag that is already sold out @ Mia & Mika!

6. Do you have a physical shop ?
No and given the current economic climate, I don't think we will be exploring this option anytime soon. Plus, I still highly appreciate the fact that we dont have to bare the overhead costs associated in maintaing a physical shop.

7. How do you promote your business?
Generally we are still trying to build a good and solid business networking. Knowing the right people in the right area definitely helps you to go further in any business you ventured into! I found Facebook to be a very good networking tool.

But among the first thing we did was sending a request to be enlisted in Emmagem's Shopping Directory list. The list is growing bigger by the day but I feel that its good to be included in anyway since the list serves as a centralised directory. Mia & Mika were actually lucky enough to be spotted among the hundreds of other e-shops and was actually featured in Emmagem last month! Read it here --> http://www.emmagem.com/2008/10/19/mofsd-items-of-the-day-2/ Independent blog reviewer like yourself, A Shopaholics Den and many more has also become a good platform for us e-shop owners to promote our stores. Truly appreciate what you all are doing and do keep up the good work!
Cheery and colourful for the happy girls!

An offline sale event is also a good way of promoting - You need to be SEEN! So far we have only managed to join one event called 'Jumble Sale@Big Blue House' hosted by Euphorics (http://www.euphorics.com.my/). We are planning to actively participate in other bazaar/flea market event from middle of December onwards so stay tuned for any annoucements!
Finally, I think having a good catch phrase will also help. Find something that is catchy and really sticks with you. Ours is --> Mia & Mika Online Store - GORGEOUSLY YOURS!

8. Which part of Malaysia or the world does your customers come from?
So far most of them are from Klang Valley area.

9. What makes your online shop different than other shops?
Our range of our items includes clothes, handbags and scarves and the collection is divided into two collection: MIA - Women & Girls and MIKA - Boys.
Attack of the Octopus for boys!

I feel that Mia & Mika Online Store is still definitely one of its kind in Malaysia. I might be wrong here (and correct me if I am) but I haven't come across any online store that holds the same concept as ours yet. We are offering well known high street brands at a very reasonable price. Who doesn't love quality at a bargain price, right? And plus, some of the brands that we bring in aren't even available in Malaysia yet. So the chances of you bumping into someone wearing the same thing as you are is close to none! In fact, people might go and asked you.. "where did you get that from?"

10. Any tips or advice for new or budding women entrepreneurs out there?
I don't think I am in such a position to be giving advice yet since I am rather new! But within the very short period that I have been involved in, I think hardwork and dedication would be the key. And make sure passion is what is driving you too! Also, never ever under estimate yourself and always think outside the box and don't be afraid to be different.

I would like to personally express my utmost thanks to Yasmin for willing to answer my dreadfully long questions even though she is millions miles away in Dublin! Haha..And I wish you all the best for your business! And for that, I would like to present you with this!
The Featured on Supermummy Amazing blog Friday award! You're most welcome to add this to your site.

By the way, today is the final day for the Gin & Jacqie bag entry! So if you are still trying to find ideas, it's your last chance to pour your creativity away! And to all who have submitted, thank you for the support! You guys are super duper lovely people!
And to all who is coming for the Nuffnang Friso Family Day Out, see you tomorrow ya! I'll be coming with Husband and Husayn. Hope to see you there!

Haha.

1. Oprah Winfrey
Memang sungguh manis ya Oprah memakai tudung. Cuma saya rasa di gambar ini mekap Oprah kelihatan agak seperti drag (mak nyah) sedikit. Jadi bila saya tenung gambar ni lama-lama saya jadi takut pulak. Tapi saya rasa struktur muka Oprah kelihatan lebih slim apabila memakai tudung dibandingkan dengan rambut kerinting menggerbang (sila rujuk gambar kecil di bawah). Cerita pasal Oprah ni baru teringat tadi adik saya tanya saya minat Oprah tak? Saya jawab entahla. Lepas tu dia kata dia kadang-kadang menyampah tengok Oprah sebab kadang-kadang Oprah tu bersemangat sangat. Tapi sedar tak kalau pengacara kat Malaysia ni di tanya soalan nak jadi apa/ ada rancangan macam siapa/idola siapa mesti dia orang jawab Oprah. Tak pernah pulak saya dengar nak jadi macam David Letterman atau Jay Leno ke. Eh tapi dulu saya suka rancangan talk show Jason Lo kat 8tv malam-malam tu.

2. Britney Spears
Sungguh cantik dan ayu hingga membuatkan saya lupa paparazzi telah mengambil banyak betul gambar dia nampak *tutt*. Kadang-kadang saya kesian dengan Britney ni sebab dia ni pun macam tak betul sangat. Kesian kat anak dia tu, dahla anak dia comel sangat.

Bell Ngasri is certainly one of Malaysia's Most Idiot

I always came to work every morning feeling mad at Husband. There's always something that make me feel like screaming in frustration, usually it's because he is so very very hard to bangun from his beauty sleep that I feel like shouting to his ear using loud hailer or siram him with air (but then if I siram him, I will end up cleaning it, so I try very hard to refrain from doing it). And we always end up going to work not talking to each other, only talking when he picked me up from work, when everything is miraculously forgotten. Maybe that's why I don't listen about marriage made from heaven whatever yadda yadda crap this media have been feeding us. Yes, sometimes I am just made of steel. Haha. For me at least, marriage really need a lot of hard work, patience, and sometimes you need to do your homework. By the way did you read about the divorce story of Bell (Ngasrizal) Ngasri. I somehow think this guy is kind of delusional, maybe he thought he was acting in drama of something. Well he actually sent SMS that sound like this to his now ex-wife:

"Aku ceraikan kau. Tq. Selamat Berjaya!"

If I don't know better, I would have laugh at the irony of it, especially the usage of selamat berjaya. Whoever use the phrase "Selamat Berjaya" to jatuhkan talak? That's a creative one, but anyway this Bell guy really deserve the Malaysia's Most Idiot Award. He also actually fell asleep during his divorce proceeding! And to think that he has a 7 month old son. Poor baby, I guess the current trend in celebrity world is to have an affair with other woman when your wife is pregnant/ just give birth. My advice: Don't marry any celebrity, especially actors. Hehe.

Oh yes, back to my nearly every morning angst, I found this 90/10 principle. Read this. Maybe it could change yourself. Well, it changes me not to be so mad anymore ( or to be mad for one minute and then I just let everything go and not really thinking about it).

Discover the 90/10 Principle by Stephen Covey.
It will change your life (at least the way you react to situations).

What is this principle?
10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is decided by how you react.

What does this mean? We really have no control over 10% of what happens to us. We cannot stop the car from breaking down. The plane will be late arriving, which throws our whole schedule off. A driver may cut us off in traffic. We have no control over this 10%.

The other 90% is different. You determine the other 90%. How? By your reaction. You cannot control a red light. but you can control your reaction. Don't let people fool you; YOU can control how you react.

Let's use an example. You are eating breakfast with your family. Your daughter knocks over a cup of coffee onto your business shirt. You have no control over what just happened. What happens next will be determined by how you react. You curse. You harshly scold your daughter for knocking the cup over. She breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you turn to your spouse and criticize her for placing the cup too close to the edge of the table. A short verbal battle follows. You storm upstairs and change your shirt. Back downstairs, you find your daughter has been too busy crying to finish breakfast and get ready for school. She misses the bus. Your spouse must leave immediately for work. You rush to the car and drive your daughter to school. Because you are late, you drive 40 miles an hour in a 30 mph speed limit.

After a 15-minute delay and throwing $60 traffic fine away, you arrive at school. Your daughter runs into the building without saying goodbye. After arriving at the office 20 minutes late, you find you forgot your briefcase. Your day has started terrible. As it continues, it seems to get worse and worse.

You look forward to coming home. When you arrive home, you find small wedge in your relationship with your spouse and daughter. Why? Because of how you reacted in the morning. Why did you have a bad day?
A) Did the coffee cause it?
B) Did your daughter cause it?
C) Did the policeman cause it?
D) Did you cause it?

The answer is "D". You had no control over what happened with the coffee. How you reacted in those 5 seconds is what caused your bad day.

Here is what could have and should have happened. Coffee splashes over you. Your daughter is about to cry. You gently say, "Its ok honey, you just need to be more careful next time". Grabbing a towel you rush upstairs. After grabbing a new shirt and your briefcase, you come back down in time to look through the window and see your child getting on the bus. She turns and waves. You arrive 5 minutes early and cheerfully greet the staff. Your boss comments on how good the day you are having.

Notice the difference? Two different scenarios. Both started the same. Both ended different. Why? Because of how you REACTED. You really do not have any control over 10% of what happens. The other 90% was determined by your reaction.

Here are some ways to apply the 90/10 principle. If someone says something negative about you, don't be a sponge. Let the attack roll off like water on glass. You don't have to let the negative comment affect you! React properly and it will not ruin your day. A wrong reaction could result in losing a friend, being fired, getting stressed out etc.

How do you react if someone cuts you off in traffic? Do you lose your temper? Pound on the steering wheel? A friend of mine had the steering wheel fall off. Do you curse? Does your blood pressure skyrocket? Do you try and bump them? WHO CARES if you arrive ten seconds later at work? Why let the cars ruin your drive? Remember the 90/10 principle, and do not worry about it.

You are told you lost your job. Why lose sleep and get irritated? It will work out. Use your worrying energy and time into finding another job. The plane is late; it is going to mangle your schedule for the day. Why take outpour frustration on the flight attendant? She has no control over what is going on. Use your time to study, get to know the other passenger. Why get stressed out? It will just make things worse.

Now you know the 90-10 principle. Apply it and you will be amazed at the results. You will lose nothing if you try it. The 90-10 principle is incredible. Very few know and apply this principle. The result? Millions of people are suffering from undeserved stress, trials, problems and heartache. We all must understand and apply the 90/10 principle. It CAN change your life!!! Enjoy...

Wedding makes Husayn go all restless (and sometimes his mummy too!)

Been to any weddings lately? I went one on Sunday, a relative of mine actually, though I honestly still kept getting confused how we are related. I've been so lousy with this relatives things because usually I have problems remembering them. It's okay if it is until the uncle, aunties or cousins part. It's just when that part stretch to second uncle, second cousins, yadda yadda that it gets confusing to me. Yes I have some problems with my brain if things get a little bit confusing..then I will start writing everything on paper to actually try to understand it.

Back to the wedding, it was actually at my kampung in Batu Pahat. I lovee going back to my kampung since well, since it's my kampung kot. But I have to go back to my husband's kampung @ Taiping during this upcoming Raya Haji. Anyway during the wedding I did not even managed to catch the pengantin since they came at 2.30pm.

It was so boring waiting for the pengantin to arrive that I decided to take photos of myself. I am using my sister's Sony Ericsson red hot Walkman phone to take this photo since I am thinking of buying a Sony Ericsson myself. Anyway if you were me, and you have budget less than RM1000, which 5megapixels camera phone would you buy? A Nokia N series or a Sony Ericsson K850i? Oh I am so torn! My heart says the K850i but the phone don't have Wifi so it's a little bit mcm tak best lah pulak.

And Husayn kept merengek because it was so hot. And Husband kept making up faces and smoking cigarettes to pass the time. But I guess that is the advantage of having a child. Don't follow this ya. But I admit that sometimes I just let Husayn cried (a little bit only ya) so we can go home earlier when it's getting bored. And look at the pics of Husayn with his hand on his nose. He will do that everytime he saw a lori sampah and shouted "cuk!" which literally means busuk. Clever boy! Haha. But the other day he hugged a baby at my babysitter's house and he laughed and put his hand on his nose while shouted "cuk!" too.

Oops, I forgot about the pengantin again. Anyway at last the pengantin arrived but I was not there since I already made my way to Cendol Madu at Parit Raja. Haha. But my sister was there so she took this pic. What's up with the pengapit lelaki anyway? I mean what's with the sunglasses inside the house. Haha. Whatever-lah, time to go! Toodles!
I'm so full with the nasi minyak, oranges, bubur candil (my favourite bubur!) and of course Cendol madu! Too bad too busy eating until no picture of the food. Heheh.

By the way do submit your entry for the Gin & Jacqie bag contest! You have until the end of the week to complete the task!

My office's IT people should get a smack on their head

Exhibit #1

The objective of this post is to vent my anger to my office's IT people. So here goes..

I don't know who directed it or who to blame to, but the move to ban Facebook and Blogspot in the office is totally pissing me off! Don't you know that is my source of escapism in this office and most of us in this office too? I first knew about it on Thursday, but I thought you will unblock it like you always did before. And then I waited and waited but I still could not accessed it until today. OK, maybe you equate Facebook like Friendster, but the move to block Blogspot was totally uncalled for. And you do know that most Malaysians like to have their blog on Blogspot and most of the blogs that I love to read and on my list, and even my own blog is on Blogspot. What have we the ordinary staff have done to you IT people? You said the line is jammed with people accessing this 'unnecessary' websites but I thought the internet line is still the same, even though you have blocked these websites. And while you're at it, why don't you also ban those free blogs provider such as Wordpress, Xanga and also Multiply. And since you already ban fotopages too, why don't you also block Flickstr too. Even better idea, I suggest you block internet totally! Sorry for being mad but oh well, never mind I guess I just have to resort to proxy sites to access Blogspot. And forget about my suggestion of blocking internet, because that will certainly make go crazier! By the way since you are blocking all this websites, at least have the decency to email all of us and inform the list of the sites that are being block.

I know you're not reading this IT people, but I really felt like throwing my 3kg-full-of-junk bag at each one of your heads.

And to all of you reading this, I still can update this blog daily because this IT people only block Blogspot and not Blogger.

By the way do submit your entry for the Gin & Jacqie bag contest! You have until the end of the week to complete the task!

Sex maniac flasher

Dare to wear this flasher costume?

Flasher aka sex maniac should get a life! Have you encounter with this types of people? Flasher by my definition here is people who readily flash their private parts with that creepy smile and is usually men! I thought it was really weird, I mean what kind of sick and disgusting thoughts they have that made them do that? This types of people should have their private parts being sunat and sunat all over until the 'thing' disappear kot. Haha, that would do them jolly good!

Don't get me wrong, it's not as if some flasher has just attacked me or anything. But I have a few experiences with this types of weirdo.

Experience #1
It was 1992 and I was 11 years old walking to my school with my friend at Kota Bharu. Our school is a part of 5 schools in this complex that they called Kompleks Sekolah Sekolah. We were walking within the complex to our sports training when suddenly a voice called us "Adik! Adik!". We turned around and saw this one guy beside his motorbike with his helmet, while his hands were showing off his private part! It was my first time seeing a grown up private part and we were so scared we ran all the way to school. Luckily that freak did not chase us or anything. Oh how I wish we have a parang with us so we could do it Lorena Bobbitt- style and slash 'em away!

Experience#2
I went to an all girls' secondary school and we usually have to line up outside the class every morning while someone recite the doa'. And somehow nearly every morning there will be this one weirdo standing near the fence with his motorbike and holding his private part! So clever of him to target girls' school and he usually made some of the students cried due to the clear view of his penis. And the weird part is the teachers usually missed this. I don't know when he suddenly disappear but he did finally disappeared.

But I guess not one of my experiences can beat one of my friend's experience. A friend of mine was riding a public bus during her boarding school days in Ipoh. This freak actually have the guts to let out his private part freely and it even touched my friend's tudung! This friend of mine was sitting down at the time and this freak was standing near her. And what's more ironic, being a little bit on the blur side, this friend of mine did not realised it but a friend of hers who is sitting beside her saw that but she was too stunned to speak!

Anyway if you meet this type of freak run as fast as you can and hope never to see them again!

Yay for Nuffnang!

Remember my Friso Nuffnang post? I just received an email from Nuffnang yesterday and our family has been selected to attend the event! I am so excited and have been begging Husband to go for the event and he agreed though reluctantly. Oh well, it doesn't matter as long as I get to go to the event anyway. Heheh. Since I started this blog a few months ago I have never met any blogger and it would be great to meet fellow bloggers at the Nuffnang Friso gathering. So if any of you are also going do buzz me, at least I know there are other people also going for that event! And I have not been to Kidzsport OU where the event will be held. Sure I've been to OU millions of times but I have never been to Kidsport. Where exactly is the place anyway? And which floor and is it in the old wing or new wing?

Oh yes I forgot to mention that Nuffnang also has been so generous and let us invite one guest family to attend the event. So if you would like to come do email me at intan_lalatz@yahoo.com so I can submit your name to Nuffnang! Please bear in mind though the offer is for only one family and I guess the first one who emailed me will get that offer. So hurry hurry!

Nuffnang email..if u are interested do email me ya!

Anyway last Saturday me, Husband and Husayn went to Ikano after visiting Husband's uncle at Damansara Specialist. And Husayn had his first cabbie ride! It was really fun and Husayn love it! Yes it was the Saturday after Husayn's fall from the bed. The cabbie ride did help for non-stroller parents like me and Husband. Haha. I think we only used Husayn's stoller thrice since he was born! By the way Padini is having this clearance sale or something in the middle of Ikano and the items look quite okay, though I did not exactly browse through the items since there were lots of people last Saturday. Plus the lines to the cashier were miles long! But I think it might be okay to go on weekdays. If you are interested I think the sale will be on until this Friday. I saw a few nice shoes priced at RM20++!

Husayn on the cabbie ride @ Ikano!

Gambar curi2 @ Brands Outlet

On Monday I was on leave and managed to send Husayn for his 18 months jab and I also went to Gin & Jacqie office at Dataran ThreeTwo, PJ. What am I doing at Gin and Jacqie office? Well if you are interested to get a super lovely bag from Gin & Jacqie do keep an eye on this blog! Maybe you could be the owner of the lovely Gin & Jacqie bag that you have been eyeing in Supermummy upcoming contest!

at the Gin & Jacqie Office

Guess what is inside?

p/s: By the way I would like to thank all who have commented in my previous post. Husayn seems fine, in fact he seems fine the morning after his fall, playing with his toys and even chewing on people around him! But to be on the safe side, I'm going to send him for a scan, well just to be on the safe side right?

Open letter to Dr Nasri of Klinik Famili TTDI

Dear Dr Nasri of Klinik Famili TTDI,

I went to your clinic at 4am on Saturday morning with my Husband and son,Husayn. In case you did not remember let me refresh your memory. Anyway what started as an ordinary night for me has turned into a mother's (nearly) worst nightmare. The night before, Husayn was sleeping soundly as soon as we got back from the babysitter which is around 8pm. But around 1am he suddenly woke up and started playing. Since we were lepaking in front of the tv, I let him play with his toys while I kept dozing off and on again on the tilam.

Around 3 in the morning Husayn kept merengek and I finally decided to move to our bedroom upstairs. Husband has not yet reached home, but due to the extreme sleepiness I decided to move upstairs. I hold Husayn in my arms and put him on the bed as soon as we reached our room. That was when I left him on the bed while I made a move to switch on the fan. But what did I know, as I turned back my head I saw Husayn in slow motion falling to the floor! I rushed to his side and what I saw made me nearly cried in panic. Blood was gushing out of his nose and lips and he of course was crying loudly. He fell off the bed face first and I was dead worried of any effects that may resulted from the fall.

Husayn's loud cry woke my mother up and she helped me to stop the blood from keep coming out. I was really worried but since Husayn has stopped crying it helped to ease me up a little. I called Husband and asked him to take Husayn to the clinic since I read and heard a lot of horror stories regarding child's fall.

So, we rushed to your clinic even though it is in the wee hours of the morning. We have to ring the bell to enter the clinic, but it's okay I understand it is for safety purpose especially during this perompak-happily-bearing-parang times. Anyway as we waited for our turn, I heard you, Dr snoring inside your room. It was quite loud, but I tried to calm myself and said "that you were probably tired".

As soon as we went into your room, what I saw disappointed me. Well, okay maybe my expectations are too high since I have been watching too much Grey's Anatomy. But you kept menguap every 2 or 3 minutes and your red blood shot eyes are not the assurance that I was looking for especially having a bloodied nose child in my arms. I mean is it too much to request that you at least wash your face before meeting us and look a little bit fresh although it is nearly 4 in the morning.

Then I kept asking you with my worried voice and your answer is so lazylike with eyes that are nearly closed, I felt as if I am talking to my brother beside his bed. Anyway, alhamdulillah Husayn is fine now and his nose is perfectly fine and not broken or anything, and for that I feel thankful to Allah.

Yours truly,
The mother of Husayn

Save the cheerleader Save the world

Do you know that Hayden Panatierre's role as an indestructible cheerleader is not only in the hit series Heroes? She also took the role as a cheerleader in Bring It On: All Or Nothing which is actually sort of the sequel to the original Bring It On which stars Kirsten Dunst.

I saw the movie at HBO previously and though I think I'm a little bit old for this kind of movie, but surprisingly I enjoyed it! It must be a secret dream of mine to be a cheerleader! Haha. Can you imagine me in cheerleading uniforms or doing sommersaults in cheerleading shoes? Must be horrible for people to watch me! But you have to watch Hayden Panetierre struts her stuff in the movie. I just love her cheerleading apparel! OMG, fyi it's totally cool! Oops..now I sound like a high school teenager!

Hayden and friends saving whale!

Anyway if there is one Hollywood starts that I wish I can reincarnate as, that would be of course as Ms Hayden Panatierre! I mean she is a brilliant actress and always with good cause in mind (did you see the pics of her trying to save whale in Japan?) and not to mention a beautiful face with a nice butt! Most of all she also has a super cute boyfriend who is actually Milo Ventimiglia, who stars as Peter Petrelli in Heroes!

Friso brings my family out

Got a spouse, got a kid and are officially married?
Call yourself blogger and have Nuffnang banners?
Then I guess, now I can happily enter..
The Nuffnang Friso Family Day Out exclusively for parenting bloggers!

Sometimes in his dreams, Husayn dreamt of being Friso model!

But then I have to put on my thinking cap to answer this question
"Why Family Day is Important for your Children?"
How do I find words to describe this?
When I suffer from creative blocks and badly hits!

Let me tell you the story of my son, Husayn
One and a half year old but with a 20-year-old brain
He's fond of lorry and watching Playhouse Disney
But his throwing tantrums are always driving me crazy!

The large forehead is the telltale sign of a 20-year-old brain!

Why Family Day is important to Husayn?
So he can make new friends and widens his social circle
Though I'd say Husayn loves to bite, so watch out people!
And he does not only bite little kid, but also adults until they turn purple!

Most of all Family Day will make Husayn happy
And he running around with big grins will make me a proud mommy
The look on his face will be so priceless
But hopefully he won't roll on the ground when we have to leave or cause any troubles!

Husayn with his big grins!

Family day will make Husayn a better kid
So he can grow up to be a charismatic and creative person
And learn to tolerate and appreciate other people
And remember son, if you have any questions you can always turn to Google!

I know my words are getting worse and my verse are out of rhymes
But remember all, family is the most important thing in the world
But life certainly would be a whole lots better a thousand of times
If me, Husayn and Husband got to attend Nuffnang Friso Family Day Out
And winning the Hong Kong Disneyland trip will certainly suit us perfectly fine!

In our dreams we also go to Hong Kong Disneyland!

So come all come all readers of Malaysian Supermummy
Enter this contest now and stand a chance to also meet the famous Chan Lilian
and the divalicious Red Mummy!

Based at Kajang and 100% purely home business, Mawaddah is a 28 years old entrepreneur. I have managed to catch up with her and here's your chance to get to know her better!

Can you tell me more about yourself?
Name: Puan Siti Noorhafezah Binti Maarop aka Mawaddah
Age: 28 years old
Location: Sungai Chua, Kajang, Selangor.

Mawaddah with husband and two adorable kids!

When did you start your online shop?
Officially using domain www.cadarshop.com in February 2007. Before that (starting November 2006), i'm using free blog: www.cadarcollection.wordpress.com

What drive you to start your business online?
Honestly, inspirasi saya untuk memulakan biz online adalah dari kejayaan suami saya...dari situ, saya nampak internet ni betul-betul boleh buat duit. thanx a million to him! Lagipun, saya memang dah biasa menggunakan internet dan mempunyai sedikit pengetahuan untuk membuat web, jadi saya fikir inilah masanya saya memulakan biz online sendiri. Another reason: mencari kepuasan bekerja dalam bidang yang diminati...

Are you doing online business full time or is this only for side income?
At first, for side income..turn to full time after giving birth my 2nd child.. :-)

What do you think is your best product?
Cream bedspread for the beautiful bride @ Cadarshop!

Do you have a physical shop ?
No. its a 100% home based business....i turned a room at my house into display corner of sample product...if customers want to see the sample products, they can come to my house, but most of my customers/web visitors think that I really have a physical shop...:-)

How do you promote your business?
90% online: website, forum, banner advertisement, link exchange, forum/email signature, free directory etc...10% offline: biz card, mouth to mouth marketing...

Which part of Malaysia or the world does your customers come from?
All part of Malaysia: Semenanjung, Sabah & Sarawak...we also received orders from Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia.

What makes your online shop different than other shops?

Cute bears for the cute little princess!

Any tips or advice for new or budding women entrepreneurs out there?

Jangan mudah putus asa! Rugi! *Peringatan buat diri saya juga*

The best part is, all Malaysian Supermummy readers are entitled for a
10% discount for purchased over RM100 (exclude postage) @ www.cadarshop.com!

Trying to be (and eat) healthy(ily) but always stumble along the way

I've gone all organic and healthy..well sort of. I guess I just need to get rid all the chocolates and sweet things that have been swamping my system. Look at what I have been eating for my office snacks.

Presenting the Almond Cluster!

The Almond Cluster and the raisins! nyum nyum

I don't know if the Almond Cluster and raisins will help make me a healthier person but it does seem like a better alternative than the Peanut Choc Biskut Tiger and Rocky that I have been consuming. But the last two days have been really stressful and super busy that makes me ended up craving for the sweet stuff that I ended up finishing the whole bunch of Biskut Tiger and Rocky in one go! Not to mention that I went home and munched on another Cadbury Chocolates! That's why I just so love the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory because the chocolates look heavenly (especially the chocolate river..nyam nyam)!

And today is suppose to be the event that I have been slaving myself for the last couple of weeks, and somehow this morning me, Husband and Husayn woke up at 7.30am which was really late! My mother was banging at my door screaming "Woi tak keje ke!", haha..ganas tak my mother? Anyway come all to Jalan Duta today for a forum with Tun Dr Mahathir, yes the former prime minister will be making an appearance today and I myself am quite excited to see him here, though never been a really big fan of him.

And this is me looking all eye bags and serabut wearing this maroon scarf that I so hate the colour but have to wear it for the event. Hopefully everything went fine and dandy.
By the way, I have friend who need babysitter for her 4 months old daughter starting this January. So if you know any babysitter around the area of Damansara Utama, Kota Damansara, Mutiara Damansara, please please do leave a comment and leave contact no for the babysitter since she is so desperately looking for a babysitter. Anyway my babysitter is at Damansara Utama but she is not accepting any newbies due to her health. If not I won't be asking for you guys help here..heheh...please please do help ya! Thank you so muchoss..

And I really appreciate all the visits to this humble site of mine, and for the appreciation I will be holding a contest again soon! Stay tune ya! Tata all.

Why the pening over baby names?

Heard the phrase "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet"? That was from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. But does Shakespeare really know how hard it is to name a baby? Hahah..of course all babies came into this world smelling sweet, in fact I kind of missed that baby sweet smell that Husayn used to have because at the moment he only smell of sweat and masam! And I really thought besides giving birth, the other hard part of having baby is naming the baby itself.

Husayn out of mama's womb

You see, I started contemplating baby names when Husayn was just 2 months inside my womb. At the time I was hoping for a baby girl so I kept searching for the perfect baby girl name that I could find. I remember settling for the name "Almira Nur Latifa". The Al infront because husband's name also came with the Al and basically Almira means princess in Arabic. As for Latifa, I really love that name since Sofea Jane has a character named Latifa in a Malay Movie (was it Cinta Kita? Really..cannot remember) aeons ago. And Latifa means petite in Arabic, so I thought the combination of that name will make the perfect baby name for me.But oh wait, Queen Latifa is not exactly petite, right? Oh sorry, that's another story altogether.

All sepet and berat at 3.6kg! But have somehow evolve into a big round eyes kid!

And then when I was pregnant at 3 months I finally know that the baby inside is not Almira, but a boy instead! So began my mad scrambling searching for the perfect baby boy name, which actually is really really tough. Tough because the name is either:
a) my relatives or husband's relatives name or
b) too many people has been using that name or
c) Husband hated the name that I have chosen or
d) I hated the name that Husband has chosen

In reality, it took months of browsing through books, Pa&Ma and surfing the internet to find that perfect baby boy name.I finally took a liking of Zarif which means elegant and witty but I ended up altering the spelling to Zharief. As for Husayn, actually I originally meant to do the spelling like this --> Hussein. But one fine day, when I was already 9 months into pregnancy, I saw the list of baby names in Pa&Ma with the spelling Husayn and I instantly love it! Husayn also means handsome and so finally we ended up up with Mohammed Husayn Zharief. Quite a long name, I know..my husband's name did not even fit into Husayn's Tabung Haji Account book because of his mouthful name!

Some people thought that I gave my son a long mouthful name because my name is only one word with five letters, and some people claimed that husband's name sound's more modern than Husayn's name. But I guess what matter most is my husband and I really love it and to make it more worth it, we call him Husayn Zharief instead of short form. I mean why susah-susah thinking of a long mouthful name when you have to call him by short form? Haha.

At 1 1/2 months with big round eyes, after being shaved completely bald by me!

To any mommy-to-be who is reading this, good luck in choosing that perfect names!

Bitching about boss and ex boss

I have been working for 5 years and I have experienced working in both male and female bosses and truth to be told, from my teeny weeny experience, I'd say give me male boss any time! Haha..I went to a kursus a few months back and the facilitator asked us to put up our hands to show our preferences for male or female boss. And when she said "who prefer male boss please put up your hand!", and almost automatically most of the hands inside the hall shot up. When it came to female boss turn, only two hands shot up. What do you think?

I am of course a female and God forbids, when in the future I become a boss I evolve into those female boss traits that I so so despised. Female boss are more bossy, I think they have this mentality to prove that they are better than their male counterparts. They are also super strict and sometimes they just want to torture you that you feel like throwing your 3 inch pump shoes at them. I'm sorry if I have offended some people with my view, but I guess my bad experience with female boss have shaped me to be this kind of person..hehe.

And most of my male boss or ex bosses are of easy going kind, and more flexible and easy to talk to. Though not all male bosses are good boss and not all female bosses are bossy boss, I guess the hardest one to find is good boss. Boss who will motivate you and make you a better employee and guide you to be an asset to the organisation. Eh, now I sound like I'm in job interview..hahaha..

Anyway my mum used to tell me that my dad's staff used to be afraid of him because he is a super strict boss (see not all female are strict..haha!) and I told my mum that I think I would really hate it if I were to work under my father supervision (which thanksfully I never did!)! She just laughed back which I secretly thought she must have agreed with me too..kehkeh.

Good luck for SPM, lil sis!

(l-r) Acik, Sabrina tukang kasut, me during Hari Raya

Today is SPM day and I want to wish my sister, Sabrina good luck for her SPM today! Sabrina is my youngest sister and youngest siblings and she is so lucky because the burden (courtesy of my beloved father of course) of sitting for big examination has been lifted by my other sisters and brothers! I was the first to go under the big scrutiny when I sat for that exam 10 years ago and since I was the first one in my family it was certainly not exactly an amazing experience.

You see I was this hopeful-cum-rebellious teenage daughter who did quite okay at school. My favourite subject would be English and History, my worst subject would be Add Maths, heck I even got 4/100 the first time I sat for Add Math! And I expected to flunk my Add Maths during SPM because I just hated the subject and ironically I did not even took tuition for Add Maths because I just did not even want to try..haha. But surprisingly, I actually passed my Add Maths even though I only got C6 and I was so proud of that I went off to hug my Add Maths teacher! Hehe..

And to think that I have a sister who scored 98% for her Add Maths..haha..how ironic is that? Anyway, Sabrina is a whole lots better than me in Add Maths and I am sure she will score anyway. After all the other day she just did all my dishes just because I said to her " kalau cuci pinggan nanti dapat 12A..hahah". And somehow that magic words worked and she clean all my dishes. Hope everything went well for my sis and cannot wait to have her at home so I can bully her again! Kehkeh..

Anyway my weekend was spent in front of the tv. I actually watched Kimora Lee Simmons' Life in the Fab Lane for nearly half a day because they were having this Kimora marathon on Channel E! I thought Kimora with her devil-may-care attitude has a fascinating life.. at least fascinating enough for me to watch..haha. And her two kids are so cute and so so becoming like her. If you haven't watch her show, go watch one today and see the life of formel model and currently a fashion mogul herself.

Kimora Life in the Fab Lane

And before I went to sleep I also managed to watch another model show, this time the larger than life, botox-laden face Janice Dickinson mentoring a new model who also the girlfriend of Peter Crouch - yes that tall, not-so-handsome, rabbit teeth footballer..kehkeh. Anyway I love Janice when she was in America's Next Top Model as one of the jury. And since she was not in the show, I have never really watched that show..hehe.

The rags-to-riches story, Nouveau riche way

Ever heard of the term Nouveau riche? In plain English that would be new rich or new money and usually used to describe rags-to-riches kind of person. I myself am a big fan of these Nouveau riche folklore. I mean who doesn't? It usually started with the not so lucky or childhood that is laden with poverty. And as these future Nouveau riche grew up, they not only learned the hard way which make they have this some kind of determination of steel, but they also have one vital thing in common which I think is also what every entrepreneurs out there should have:

AMBITION.

I don't think without ambition or even lack of it, business will last longer and even the term Nouveau riche will even exist. Ambition is what make you stronger and keep hopes alive when everything is not so well. And these Nouveau riche actually dare to have ambition despite their background and they work really hard to achieve their ambition. Have you heard of Estee Lauder story?

Estee Lauder at work taken from Wikipedia

The famous Estee Lauder brands does not become famous overnight. It is not instant success, but the success of the brand today is due to the founder itself. Estee Lauder was the daughter of immigrants who lived above her father's hardware store. She started her little enterprise by selling skin cream created by her chemist uncle. And what's her secret to success? She simply outworked everyone in the cosmetics industry. According to Time magazine, she stalked the bosses of New York City department stores until she got some counter space at Saks Fifth Avenue in 1948. And once in that space, she utilized a personal selling approach that proved as potent as the promise of her skin regimens and perfumes.

Estee Lauder's Nouveau riche story is certainly amazing and inspiring, especially to women out there. With the internet as our major source of information these days which in turn creates millions of opportunities, you also can be a part of Nouveau riche entourage with the right attitude and maybe some luck!

House, home, abode, sanctuary to create happy memories!

Would you rather buy a house near your office with expensive price tag or do you prefer to stay far from the office and buy a cheaper house?

I have been living with my parents all my life (ok so except during my uni days..but PJ and Cyberjaya is like not that far..so it doesn't count, does it?) and it is my ultimate dream to buy a house as soon as I got my confirmation here at my present job, so I can be eligible for the government loan, that's why. Haha. And since my office is at Jalan Duta which is surrounded by the elusive Hartamas and Mont Kiara area you can imagine the price of houses around here. Am I willing to pay at last RM220k for a less than 900sqf apartment/condo? Or should I buy in the Rawang area where the house is cheaper and not to mention bigger too.

This house at Changkat Kiara which is quite nearby to my office is priced more than RM1 million!

Other place to consider maybe is Puchong but I know the jam there is unsolvable and there's the toll to consider too. Of course I dream of a double storey house with lots of bedrooms for lots of future children (I dreamt of 5 kids but giving birth to Husayn was a traumatic experience to me! hehe). Deep down, I prefer a home in PJ more than anywhere else maybe since I grew up here and I thought for some unknown reason the roads and shades look comforting and familiar. But where do you find less than 300k landed property in PJ?

Oh well, I pray that I will make the perfect choice when the time came. Amin!

p/s: The flu attack is hitting me at the moment and I am having a headache right now (and to think it's only 8 something in the morning!). And the air-con at my office is not helping either..cepatla pukul 5.30!
And this is me right now..all red nose and feeling not that good

Happy happy weekend everyone!

Ironing is definitely my least favourite house chores

If there is one house chores that I wish I never have to do again in my life it would be ironing. Why can't all the kain in the world be created iron-free and crumple-free? You can make me stand hours in the kitchen or kemas all the bajus in the world, but nothing can make me cry but ironing!

Have you had the experience of ironing your own husband's shirts and then he kept complaining that it is not up to the expectations? Well mine did, but I found other solution. I choose the less wrinkle baju for me to iron! Hehe..I honestly cannot imagine what it must be like to those people who earn their living by ironing clothes ( much respect to those iron-ers at the laundry!).

Here is a picture of me ironing Husband's shirt last night. I look so happy because the shirt is sooo super duper easy to iron and has minimise crumple effects. Haha. But guess what this morning he simply took other shirt and left the one that I iron on the hanger because he said he thought he is wearing the same thing every week! Oops..

And this is my favourite iron - a very light and easy to handle Phillips iron! I nicked this from my mother and ditched my previous iron which was so berat and have caused me to burn a pant of mine! Maybe it's my fault, but I'm still blaming the iron! Haha
Supermummy ironing fun fact: I'm a left handed so I iron with my left hand. But I switched to my right one on those I-have-too-many-clothes-to iron-day.
And since today is Thursday so it means batik for Government servant like moi! And I cheated again this time by not wearing Malaysian batik. This Indonesian batik is just so easy peasy to iron. And all my Malaysian batik is crumpled to pieces and I hate the fact that my Malaysian batik is so hard to iron and so easy to get crumpled! Grr..

Did you follow American election results yesterday? I'm not really a political person, hey I'm also guilty for not registering to vote in my own country yet! But I thought it was interesting to see Obama wins and I thought pictures of him showing his human side and compassion, especially the one with tears on his face mourning for his dead grandmother did also help.

And I thought Lewis Hamilton is perfect to be Obama's son because well, they look a little bit alike. Must be the hair? The structure of the face? No? Haha..

Lewis Hamilton-youngest ever 2008 F1 world champions who also has Nicole Scherzinger of Pussycat Dolls as girlfriend (who also nearly collapse with excitement upon watching Lewis Hamilton winning the championship!)Barack Obama - the 44th American President and the first American black president and get this..his middle name is actually Hussein! So that would be Mr Barack Hussein Obama actually.

Kaftan no-no for breastfeeder

Do you know what did I miss most while breastfeeding Husayn?

This.

Yes kaftan or baju kelawar! Totally soft, airy, comfortable, and it's the current in thing too! I've never really been a fan of kaftan before, only started wearing when I first bought it at Kelantan 3-4 years ago and I found it amazingly nice! So I continued wearing it and I also love wearing the kaftan when I was pregnant - as my baju tidur of course. Hehe..But since I gave birth to Husayn and have been his milk factory for nearly two years now (another 6 months to 2 years! wow..) I have stopped wearing kaftan. Everybody around me will surely go pening if they see me breastfeeding Husayn while wearing the above kaftan anyway..haha.

And I saw that they are selling those cute cute kaftan for kids too...alahai comelnya..Can't wait to have my own baby girl so I can dress her in kaftan too!

Mcnaughtized yourself in Paradise!

Ever read Paradise by Judith McNaught? That got to be my most favourite romance novel ever! I read this one years ago and of all this genre books that I have read, I guess Paradise stands out the most. And I have read most of Judith McNaught's works and I think Paradise is my favourite, with Perfect also by the same author in close second. I just read somewhere that Paradise is currently ban in Malaysia though I cannot really confirm it since I tried to do a search in Kementerian Keselamatan Dalam Negeri's list of ban publications but Paradise is nowhere to be found.

My copy of Paradise is nowhere to be found, so if anybody found any copy at the bookshop or kind enough to loan one to me, do inform me. By the way, I have changed my banner and I thought it look hillarious..hahah. I just got sick of the previous one and so I doodled a new one. Husayn as Superman? Small head big body..kehkeh..And in case you are wondering all the pics are all superimpose..I mean I can't imagine my husband wearing like that which is so like resemble a hip hop wannabe star or something..

And remember the Madagascar ticket that I won from redmummy? Well, turns out I have some works today and my plan to watch the movie has gone well into dust! Oh well, maybe next time I guess.

Saturday afternoon fun

My parents' house (aka our sanctuary too!) is really near to the Kelana Jaya LRT station. But me and Husband have never even once brought Husayn to go to the LRT station let alone the LRT. Everytime we passed by the LRT area this budak kecik will shout "Mama! Train!", while jumping up and down excitedly. And so on Saturday we decided to take a walk (which I have never done in ages!LOL) near the LRT area.

Husayn & abah

We passed by Marco's Pizza. I have never been to their outlet before though it is located very near to my house. Anyway is it halal? I saw most of the staff are Malays but did not see any halal logo so I had teeny weenie doubts about the halal thing.
Marco's Pizza

And Husband used to wait for me here when I used to work in Bukit Jalil. And it was during that bercinta time. And the LRt here really boost the price of the houses in this area. Can you believe my dad bought his house near this area for only RM80k++ in the 80s! But bear in mind during the 80s, this highway has not yet existed and it's all ladang getah here. Took more than 10 years for the area to be really developed.
the LDP and LRT
Husayn was excited at the LRT station. And he kept running here and there. So his mummy here had to layan him while he shouted (sekejap bas, sekejap train, sekejap lori) and ran in circles excitedly.
This budak kecik seems to develop deep fondness of vehicles expecially bus, lorry, bicycle and train

I waited and waited for the train to move but it did not move!

Husayn jakun sikit..haha

Since it was nearly 7pm, we ditched the plan to ride the LRT and went jalan-jalan inside the LRT station only. We dropped by Guardian (yes, there's a Guardian inside this station!) and I managed to buy a few things as Husayn was yelling so Husband will release him so he could run inside the shop freely.
And lookey what I found here! Olay Total Effects for only RM28.88! I actually bought this thing for RM36++ the day before at Guardian and somehow they made this promotion the day after! Oh well, not my rezeki I guess but they made this promotion during Saturday and yesterday only. Anyway after finished touring the LRT station, we went back and singgah to DVD shop which was situated near the LRT and bought this titles : Ironman, Narnia (the one with Prince caspian something) and What Happes In Vegas..anyway I just watched What Happens in Vegas last night..twice! Hillarious..heheh

What drive you to start your business online?
I love business. It's in the blood because my late father had 3-4 business during his lifetime. Since I'm working full time and have only small capital, I try to find ways to do business without having a high overhead cost and I want to do it part time. Plus point that I have been expose to internet and online shopping for so long, I thinks it's time for me start selling something online and I did it!

Are you doing online business full time or is this only for side income?
I'm doing this as a part time and planning ahead to do it full time. Waiting for the right time to come, haha!

Where do you get the ideas for the design of your products?
It started when I had my daughter. She's fully breastfeed up to 10 months; her weight was 3.72kg when she was born. She reluctant to be seated on the stroller during outing and I have to find a way to carry her and at the same time, I didn't get the backache, get my hands free so that I can move around with her easily and most important is it's safe. I surf over the net about baby wearing and did some research. I finally bought baby sling from Lucky Baby Wear. It cost me around RM145 at that time. Having such a good time during baby wearing with the pouch, drives me to try to sew my own pouch so that I have few designs to suit my outfit when I go out. I start to find fabrics at local store and borrow sewing machine from my mother in law. She has like 3 machines, thanks a lot her! Although I have my own machine now, without her machine and she as the QA person, Hotmama Pouch will be not invented. FYI, I only have basic knowledge in sewing.

I realized that people always give me a second look and smile when they saw me carrying Yasmin in the baby pouch, I also been approached by strangers few times at shopping mall, asking about baby pouch. From there, I got an idea to start selling baby pouch to all moms in Malaysia. I want mommies to experience the precious and joyful moment of baby wearing with their baby like I had. I've did some research on sizes, measurement, safety about baby pouch, how to wear, type of fabric, type of seam stress etc before I start offer my product to others. With 110% full support from my other half I sold my first Hotmama Pouch on Aug 2007.

Do you have a physical shop?
Not yet...i wish to have one when I do this business full time. Currently, I turned one of room in my apartment as my so called "working-studio-inventory-room".
Colourful design!

How do you promote your business?
I join forums that offer user to do business in their forum like WMC, Kedaimakan.com just to name a few. I also do emails/sms all my friends, colleagues, use MySpace, Friendster and my blog to promote my website and latest offer I have.

Which part of Malaysia or the world does your customer come from?
I had customers from all over Malaysia including Sabah & Sarawak…regardless of races. Planning to try selling on ebay and get more customers from overseas and earn in USD$ ka-chingg!

What makes your online shop different than other shops?
I sell something that rarely offered by others like my Hotmama Pouch. Maybe some other online did sell same product but the prints and type of fabrics I choose is different. For the kids wear I try my best to offer the latest trend in the market and currently I also have Gymboree lines that I order direct from Gymboree Online US (www.gymboree.com).

Any tips or advice for new or budding women entrepreneurs out there?
Never give up and work smart! To those plans to sell product online, invest some money to buy good camera to shoot your products because pictures speak thousand words! Not forgot to mention, service to your customer must be very good, to gain their trust is to deliver on time, give correct information about your product as precise as possible. Remember, people talks, you'll not only get return customer but sure you'll get a friend, of a friend of one of your customer who already purchased from you to come and buy from your online shops if your service is good!

The best air kedondong in PJ that I ever tasted

I had my sort of makan petang-cum-dinner yesterday at Village Park, Damansara Uptown. I love love going to this restaurant because of the air kedondong! It was so sedap that they usually ran out of air kedondong by lunch time. But thankfully when I went there yesterday I maanged to feed myself air kedondong since they have just replenish their kedondong stock.

Anyway the real reason I went to Village Park was because my tekak is throwing tantrums and the nauseous and loya have not really gone away that makes me scared inside. Janganla pregnant pulak, kept chanting on my mind. Haha. Not that I don't want any kid after Husayn, but I was hoping we have more time for Husayn at least until he turns 2 before he get any adik. But then if somehow I got pregnant before that, I will of course accept it and love it too! See, I have a fickle minded mind. Sekejap nak pregnant, sekejap tak nak.

So I ordered asam laksa since I long for something masam-masam sikit.

The Asam Laksa

And of course my favourite air kedondong

which I also consume with my favourite version of roti bakar
and husband had his mee kari
with air apa ya..oops cannot remember..must be coffee or something
And it was really heavenly! Yummy! Actually my old office was just next door to Village Park so I used to go here a lot of times, but not too many because the price is a little bit above average. But Jalan Jalan Cari Makan TV3 has done coverage on Village Park and I always saw the beautiful and famous hanging out here, though I cannot remember who. Haha. Tapi really, this place has one of the best food in PJ and they claim they have the best nasi lemak in PJ.

So the next time you are in the Damansara Uptown area, do drop by this restaurant ya and this is not an advertisement and I am not paid to do this write up but really, this comes from my heart..haha.

And as for the pregnancy scare, after we finished with Village Park, I went to Guardian to buy pregnancy test and the outcome is negative. Haha..All this pregnancy talk reminds me of a conversation I had with Husayn a few days ago.

Me: Sayang, nak adik tak?
Husayn : Nanak!

Pandai betul dia jawab. Isk. Haha.
